Games Books

I wrote a commercially-published series of books filled with games, many of which I had designed and tested myself, the rest adapted from well-known folk games. They have spent months at a time in the Top 100 across all books on Amazon, and have now been translated into 8 languages and published across the world.

They represent a lifelong obsession over designing playful, wholesome, challenging experiences and sharing these with others. The amazon page to the first in the series is available by clicking on the image.

TTRPGS

I’m a professional D&D Dungeon Master, creating and running paid campaigns for adults and young people. I write my own settings, adventures and characters, as well as homebrewing items, stat blocks and mechanics. I apply my knowledge of narrative and game design theory to create unique experiences for my players.

video game design

Since learning Python, I’ve planned and coded a variety of game systems with a focus on procedurally generated content and emergent gameplay. The rigid and structural nature of coding is the polar opposite to the free-flowing nature of TTRPG game design. A text-only playable prototype of some of these systems is available by clicking on the image.

Twine

I’ve engaged with branching narrative structure through visualization software such as Twine, creating stories that flow with the player’s whims. A short vignette representing some of the skills I’ve learned is available by clicking on the image.

paper prototyping

I plan and test game systems with paper and card to maximize balance, repeatability and (most of all) fun. The game depicted is a card game based on the folk game ‘Nim’, still in early stages but tremendously rewarding to develop.
